• Lisa Feldman I Psychotherapist

When a member of a family struggles with anxiety, depression, or emotion dysregulation, it can have a significant impact on the entire family system. As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I consider both the individual and relational aspects of these problems. I offer individual therapy, including tailored exposure therapy, to help clients learn new ways of responding to their anxiety and related problems, as well as couple therapy, family therapy, and parenting support to address the relational difficulties that often accompany these challenges and other life stressors.

    About Lisa

I am a Marriage and Family Therapist licensed in New York and a clinical fellow of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy. In addition to treating clients in my private practice I also conduct groups for parents and adolescents at the Larchmont-Mamaroneck Community Counseling Center, a non-profit organization providing affordable counseling services and parent education to the local community. I earned a Bachelors degree from Washington University in St. Louis and a Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Mercy University. I have received post-graduate training in the following evidence based practices: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions).

  • Services Offered

    Individual Therapy

I provide evidence-based therapy, utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which I tailor to meet your individual needs.

    Couple Therapy

We will work together to understand the underlying narratives of your strong emotions and your negative patterns of interaction. As a result, you will learn new ways to respond to each other and restore emotional connection.

    Family Therapy

Family therapy is a way of understanding and treating emotional problems and personal crises by working with family members, rather than the individual. Family therapy can reduce distress by improving the systems of interactions between family members, and can be especially helpful when confronted with anxiety, grief, and conflict. I will help you and your family members develop more effective, less stressful patterns of living.

Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE)

I am a trained SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions) provider, an evidence-based, parent-based treatment program for children and adolescents with anxiety. Parenting an anxious child means facing constant challenges and questions. When should you help your child avoid anxiety provoking situations and when should you encourage your child to face their fears? How can you foster independence while still offering support? And, how can you reduce the hold your child's anxiety has over the entire family? I help parents learn new skills to help their child overcome anxiety or related problems. The focus is on changes that parents can make to their own behavior. Learning how to identify how you may be accommodating your child's anxiety is the key to your child's long-term success.

    Exposure Therapy

Exposure therapy is the process of facing feared situations gradually and repeatedly over time. It is normal to want to avoid the things you fear. However, avoidance prevents you from learning that the things you fear may not be as dangerous as you think. I gradually introduce you to the thoughts, feelings, and situations that trigger your anxiety. I then coach you to manage your discomfort without avoiding and escaping. Many individuals with anxiety disorders such as social anxiety, panic disorder, and specific phobias lack confidence in their ability to confront stressful situations effectively. With support, and in small steps, I will help you engage in what matters to you so you can discover you are more capable than you had previously thought. You will realize you are able to accomplish difficult tasks and effectively deal with life's challenges, paving the path for a full and meaningful life.

  • Testimonials

"Lisa successfully balances the dialectic of empathically validating the individual's anxiety and urge to avoid while firmly encouraging the individual to carry out exposures. She's a special human being who gets it and is a great asset to any therapeutic program."

"We are so grateful for Lisa's support. We had tried therapy in the past but it did not prepare us for real-life experiences. We are thrilled to see such progress in a short amount of time and, most importantly, our daughter is so pleased as well. She described having a breakthrough. It’s the first time we've heard her speak so optimistically about the future. Thank you Lisa!"

"I’ve been in therapy since I was 13 years old. I am turning 40 and I’ve seen my share of therapists over the years. Lisa is a cut above - completely committed to an improvement in the quality of your life and your family’s life. When I began therapy, I would not go to the grocery store. I would not even attempt to walk around the block let alone go into almost any store, or even my daughters school. It is hard work going out into the world, and facing the things that you most fear, head-on. That is Lisa’s specialty. Real life exposure to the things that are preventing you from fully living your life. Lisa gave me the tools and the confidence to pursue this journey."

"Lisa Feldman is an exceptional exposure therapist who worked wonders with my 14-year-old son, helping him conquer his paralyzing fear of needles. Her unwavering patience and genuine understanding created a safe and supportive environment for my son to face his fears head-on. We are incredibly grateful for Lisa's expertise and caring approach, and we wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone seeking help with similar challenges."
